Mardi Gras Float Created in MOWCC Woy Woy Facility

Over past weeks, a project has been taking shape in our Woy Woy outlet’s garage.

A project that was on view for all to see at Saturday night’s Sydney Mardi Gras. We are so happy that we have been able to support the Central Coast Pride Community Group by donating space for them to build their float. It looks fantastic and we hope they had a great time on the night!

Meals on Wheels Open Day – Thursday 27 February 2020

We had a great turnout at our Open Day on Thursday 27 February at our Head Office at Tuggerah.

Flagstaff Fine Foods were on hand to dish up tasty morsels of their meals, and staff chatted to guests about the services we offer our community.

Thank you for all who came along, it was a wonderful day!

Meals on Wheels Central Coast Ready to Generate Power

There is a welcome new addition to the team at the Meals on Wheels Central Coast Distribution Centre at Tuggerah. It’s big and powerful and will come in handy in times of power outages and storms.

Thanks to the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme, a Himoinsa HYW45T5 generator has been installed to assist in times of power outages and emergency situations.

Gaining support from Emma McBride MP, Member for Dobell, Meals on Wheels Central Coast applied for a grant for Round 5 of the Stronger Communities Programme, run through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development and the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science.

The grant, which will share half the cost of the generator and its installation costs, is essential to maintaining the high level of support the company offers the local community.

“The installation of the generator means that we can still supply meals to our clients in the case of planned or unplanned power cuts,” said Dennis Taylor, CEO of Meals on Wheels Central Coast.

“In the event of lengthy power cuts, our organisation would face significant financial loss due to the logistical cost of the loss of meals.

“Having the generator means no loss of service to our clients, and also gives Meals on Wheels Central Coast the capacity to provide meals to members of the Central Coast Community in the event of an emergency,” Mr Taylor said.

The generator is now installed and ready to be fired up when the need arises.

New Generator for our Tuggerah Distribution Centre

Behold the mighty generator! Thanks to the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme and Emma McBride MP, Member for Dobell, we have received funding to assist us in the purchase and installation of this (not so little) beauty at our Tuggerah Distribution Centre.

Our new generator, a Himoinsa HYW-45T5, will support our business in times of planned and unplanned power cuts, minimising inconvenience to our clients and safeguarding our meal stock. This also means that we can provide meals to members of the Central Coast Community in the event of an emergency.

Support for the Rural Fire Service Near and Far

We love being able to support the Australian community, and recently we were were able to assist the Rural Fire Service via some donations.

Over the past month we have been able to donate meals to the Gosford Rural Fire Service Catering Unit at Kariong. Our donation of meals was well received and will help feed those out fighting the bush fires that have been raging in our region.

We were also able to donate $2,000 to Meals on Wheels at Dubbo who will forward this money on to the Rural Fire Service in their area to give much needed assistance to those out West.

The Rural Fire Service do an amazing job and we appreciate all that they do. We are so glad that we could help in some small way to assist this hard working organisation.

Thanks to our subsidiary company One Direct Advisory for making these donations possible.

Volunteer Christmas Celebrations

Our annual Volunteer Christmas Party was held on Wednesday 11 December this year at Mingara Recreation Club, and a great time was had by all.

We celebrated all of our volunteers and presented 2 new Life Memberships along with Service Awards for those who have volunteered with us for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years.

Santa and his elves stopped by for a visit and helped out with the raffles, and helped ensure that the Christmas spirit was alive and well at Meals on Wheels Central Coast.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, and we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Food for Firies

We love being able to support our community, and this morning we dropped off some meals to the Gosford RFS Catering Unit at Kariong. We appreciate all that you do, and are so glad that we could help in some small way to make catering to the amazing RFS team a little easier.

Thanks Captain Gail, Liz, Christine and Lyn for showing us around. We especially loved meeting ‘Dotti’, your converted Arnotts catering truck!

Collegial Associations Strengthen Community Relationships

Collegial partnerships are alive and well on the Central Coast, with supportive relationships being formed between three companies – One Direct Advisory, Kariong Neighbourhood Centre and Meals on Wheels Central Coast.  One Direct Advisory has worked with the management teams in both companies to help improve the management systems and strategic direction.

Working as part of the Kariong Neighbourhood Centre team, One Direct Advisory used their skill and expertise in a range of areas, resulting in a significant financial and operational turnaround for the community based association.

Shayne Silvers, General Manager of Kariong Neighbourhood Centre, welcomed the guidance of the specialised advisory team.

“Working as part of our team, One Direct Advisory supported our Centre in both financial and operational areas resulting in a positive change,” she said.

“We are grateful for the collegial partnerships we have formed with both One Direct Advisory and Meals on Wheels Central Coast.

“It’s encouraging to see businesses working together for the greater good of the community on the Central Coast. “ Ms Silvers said.
